Trafalgar Square Postcard
Trafalgar Square Postcard
Trafalgar Square postcard is from North East artist Emily Ward's beautiful range of art postcards. This postcard has been created from original artwork by Emily.
In Emily's postcard, Trafalgar Square is presented as a calm but lively space. The fountain dominates the foreground, its sprays broken into smaller droplets that add texture and rhythm. The pool is painted in soft aqua shades, complementing the warm tones of the stonework around it.
The brushwork softens the edges of the architecture, leaving the colour transitions to define the shapes. The sky shifts gradually through pinks and violets, setting a calm backdrop. It is a clear, atmospheric depiction of one of London’s landmarks.

Trafalgar Square
The mid-nineteenth century saw the creation of Trafalgar Square, a civic project by Charles Barry that commemorated Britain’s naval victory at Trafalgar in 1805. Its centrepiece, Nelson’s Column, towers above the city, a constant reminder of Admiral Nelson’s role in the nation’s history. With its fountains, statues, and surrounding monuments, the square provided London with a grand public arena.
Over time, it became much more than a memorial. Trafalgar Square evolved into a place of assembly and expression, where Londoners could come together in celebration or protest. From major political movements to festive gatherings, it has reflected the spirit of the city itself. Framed by the National Gallery and located at the heart of London, it endures as both a historic landmark and a vital civic space.
