Trafalgar Square Bone China Cup
Trafalgar Square Bone China Cup
Trafalgar Square bone china cup has been designed from original artwork by Emily Ward. All cups are printed and hand pressed in Emily's studio in the North East.
The sky above Trafalgar Square is painted in soft gradients of blue, purple, and pink, shifting naturally across the bone china cup. The clouds are loose and expressive, blending with the atmosphere rather than standing apart from it. This upper section gives Emily's art a light, expansive quality.
Below, the central water fountain takes prominence. The splashes and flow of water are marked with splats, giving it a sense of energy and motion. In the distance, buildings appear gently defined, serving as a quiet architectural backdrop.

Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square was laid out in the 1840s, designed by Charles Barry as part of a wider effort to create grand civic spaces in London. It commemorates Admiral Lord Nelson’s decisive victory over Napoleon’s fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, a turning point that secured Britain’s naval supremacy. At its centre stands Nelson’s Column, a towering monument rising over 50 metres, crowned by a statue of the admiral and surrounde by four bronze lions sculpted later in the century. The fountains and statues that fill the space further underline its function as a public memorial.
Trafalgar Square was conceived not only as a monument but as a living urban space. From the nineteenth century onward it has been a gathering place for rallies, celebrations, vigils, and cultural events, a stage on which London’s history has continually unfolded. The presence of the National Gallery to the north gives the square cultural depth, while its openness makes it a crossroads for residents and visitors alike. Today it remains one of the most recognisable symbols of London, both commemorative and communal in its identity.
