Kensington Palace Framed Ceramic Tile

Kensington Palace framed ceramic tile has been designed from original artwork by North East artist Emily Ward. All ceramic tiles are printed and hand pressed in Emily's art studio, where she hand finishes every tile.

Emily’s framed ceramic tile of Kensington Palace captures the historic building with a sense of warmth and softness. Rather than focusing on fine detail, she uses expressive, fluid brushstrokes to evoke atmosphere and feeling. The palace’s red brick glows gently beneath a sky of purples and blues.

In the foreground, a meadow of wildflowers spills outward in lively dots of yellow, lilac, and white. The flowers are painted loosely, adding movement to the ceramic tile. The statue at the center serves as a focal point, grounding the piece with a sense of history amid the vibrancy.

Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace began as a modest Jacobean house in the early 1600s, before being transformed into a royal residence in the late 17th century. Set just west of central London, its location made it a peaceful alternative to the bustle of Whitehall. Over time, the palace expanded, and its surrounding grounds were gradually shaped into the formal gardens and parkland that still offer calm in the heart of the city. Its red-brick design reflects the architectural tastes of the period, blending practicality with quiet grandeur.

Beyond its royal connections, Kensington Palace has long played a role in public life. It has served as a backdrop to cultural events, exhibitions, and charitable initiatives, and is now partly open to visitors year-round. Its presence in Kensington Gardens makes it a familiar landmark for locals and tourists alike. The palace’s long story offers both heritage and a sense of living history.
