The British Museum Framed Ceramic Tile
The British Museum
The British Museum framed ceramic tile has been designed from original artwork by North East artist Emily Ward. All ceramic tiles are printed and hand pressed in Emily's art studio, where she hand finishes every tile.
In Emily’s interpretation of the British Museum, the grandeur of the architecture feels softened by a wash of colour and light. The sky stretches wide in a blend of powdery blues, gentle violets, and hints of rosy lavender, giving the settling a luminous glow.
Wisps of cloud drift across the surface, while tiny, scattered dots of pastel paint, like confetti or floating pollen add a softness to this framed ceramic tile.
The museum’s stately columns and triangular pediment rise with dignified symmetry, their pale stone hues subtly warmed by creamy highlights and cool shadows.
In the foreground, a vibrant tapestry of wildflowers blossoms in delicate pinks, purples, yellows, and soft greens are gently swaying in front of the historic setting.

The British Museum
The British Museum stands in the Bloomsbury area of central London and is one of the most significant museums in the world. It was established in 1753 after Parliament approved the purchase of the collection of Sir Hans Sloane, a physician and scientist, and it opened to the public in 1759, becoming the first national museum to offer free access.
The museum was originally housed in Montagu House, but the present building was constructed between 1823 and 1852, designed by Sir Robert Smirke in an imposing Greek Revival style. Over the centuries, it has expanded into a vast institution, housing artefacts from across the globe and offering visitors a powerful insight into the breadth and depth of human history.
