Maryport Coaster

Maryport coaster is by North East artist Emily Ward. Created from original art, it is printed and hand pressed locally in her studio near Newcastle.

The 19th century iron lighthouse stands proud at the end of the South pier under a sky filled with hints of pink and lilac.

The small mountains on the far side of the Solway Firth can be seen through Emily's splashes of sea spray.

Maryport

Maryport is a lovely harbour town in Cumbria, and is situated just outside the Lake District National Park. The town is one of the southernmost towns on the Solway Firth, the River Ellen flows through Maryport into the Solway Firth.

The lighthouse was established in 1846 and is reported to be the oldest cast-iron lighthouse in the UK. The lighthouse is 4.7metres high.

The Grade II listed building consists of an octagonal metal plinth, column & lantern on top of a rusticated stone base.

The renowned artist L S Lowry used the lighthouse in several of his paintings.
