Emily’s artwork brings Kensington Palace to life through a blend of detail and vibrant colour. The palace’s red-brick exterior and symmetrical windows are painted in rich, warm tones that stand boldly against a swirling sky of purples, blues, and soft clouds.

In the foreground, a wild garden of flowers blooms, depicted in playful dots and brushstrokes of pink, yellow, and lavender. The statue at the centre adds a touch of history and elegance. The timeless grandeur of Kensington Palace is balanced with the vitality of nature, offering a fresh and captivating interpretation of this iconic royal residence.

Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace has been a royal residence for over 300 years, with its origins tracing back to the early 17th century. Originally known as Nottingham House, it was acquired in 1689 by William III and Mary II, who wanted a home away from central London. The couple commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to redesign and expand the property, turning it into a grand yet informal royal retreat. Over the next century, it became the residence of successive monarchs, including Queen Anne and King George I, playing a central role in court life and royal politics during the 18th century.

The palace is perhaps most famously known as the birthplace and early home of Queen Victoria, who lived there until she ascended the throne. Although it ceased to be the monarch's primary residence after Victoria’s reign began, Kensington Palace remained a significant royal home.

Today, the palace is both a working home for members of the royal family and a public heritage site, offering insight into the private and public lives of Britain's monarchy across the centuries.
