In the foreground, a meadow of wildflowers bursts with colour, splashes of pink, purple, blue and white that add a sense of movement and joy. Sizergh
Sizergh is a historic estate on the southern edge of the Lake District near Kendal, best known for Sizergh Castle, a fortified medieval house that has been home to the Strickland family for over 800 years. Managed by the National Trust, the castle features a striking tower house, beautifully preserved oak-panelled rooms, and the renowned Elizabethan Inlaid Chamber.
The surrounding estate includes formal gardens, one of the oldest rock gardens in the country, wildflower meadows, and extensive woodland and wetland walks across 1,600 acres. Visitors can enjoy scenic trails, seasonal events, and wildlife spotting. Easily accessible from Kendal, Sizergh offers a rich blend of history, nature, and tranquility, making it a rewarding destination in the southern Lake District.
