Maryport
Maryport is a pretty harbour town with lovely views along the Solway Coast, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town is situated just outside the Lake District National Park. It is one of the southernmost towns on the Solway Firth, the River Ellen flows through Maryport into the Solway Firth.
The lighthouse was established in 1846 and is reported to be the oldest cast-iron lighthouse in the UK. The lighthouse is 4.7metres high. The lighthouse consists of an octagonal metal plinth, column & lantern on top of a rusticated stone base.
