Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum
in London was established in the late 19th century and officially opened its doors to the public in 1881. Designed by architect Alfred Waterhouse, the building is a stunning example of Romanesque Revival architecture, characterized by its grand arches, detailed terracotta decorations, and twin towers. Originally part of the British Museum’s natural history collection, it became an independent institution to better showcase the vast collections of specimens spanning botany, zoology, mineralogy, and paleontology.
Over the years, the museum has grown to become one of the world’s leading centres for scientific research and public education in natural history. It houses millions of specimens, including rare fossils, dinosaur skeletons, and minerals, attracting millions of visitors annually.
