Angel of the North
The Angel of the North, is a contemporary sculpture that was designed by Antony Gormley and was completed in 1998. Rising nearly 20 metres from the ground and with a wingspan nearly equal to a jumbo jet, this statue has become one of the most famous pieces of artwork in the North East.
An iconic landmark in Gateshead, the Angel of the North stands proud on a panoramic hillside near the A1 and is considered a symbol of home by many geordies!
