The Tyne Bridge
is a major part of The Great North Run when 52,000 runners pass over the bridge with the Red Arrows flying over it.
The Tyne Bridge was designed by an engineering firm from Middlesbrough, who later designed both the Forth Road Bridge and Sydney Harbour Bridge. When it opened in 1928 it was the world's longest single span bridge.
