The Royal Liver Building Ceramic Tile

The Royal Liver Building framed ceramic tile has been designed from original art by North East artist Emily Ward. All ceramic tiles are printed and hand pressed in Emily's art studio, where she hand finishes every tile.

Liverpool's iconic Royal Liver Building stands proud under a dreamlike background of rich purples, pinks and soft blues. The building itself is illustrated with fine detail, its grand architecture and famous clock tower are at the heart of Emily’s art framed ceramic tile.. The Liver Birds that are perched at the top complete the familiar silhouette that represents the city’s maritime legacy.

The foreground is filled with colourful wildflowers, painted in lively dabs and splashes of pink, yellow, and white, adding a joyful burst of energy to Emily Ward’s art.

The Royal Liver Building

The Royal Liver Building is a Grade I listed building in Liverpool. Situated on Pier Head along with the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building, they are known as Liverpool’s Three Graces. They run along the waterfront and are symbols of Liverpool's maritime past.

The Royal Liver Building opened in 1911 and was one of the first buildings in the world to use reinforced concrete. Known for being Europe’s first skyscraper it stands 98.2m tall to the top of the spires and 103.7m to the top of the Liver birds.

The Liver Birds are a pair of mythical creatures which have become a symbol of Liverpool. The birds have been named Bella and Bertie and are said to be a cross between an eagle and a cormorant. Bella looks out to sea and Bertie watches over the city.
