The Bridge House, Ambleside Ceramic Tile with Easel
The Bridge House, Ambleside Ceramic Tile with Easel
The Bridge House, Ambleside ceramic tile with easel is by North East artist Emily Ward. The ceramic tile has been created from original art by Emily and is hand pressed locally in her art studio.
Emily’s art ceramic tile portrays the charming Bridge House in Ambleside, an iconic and historic structure nestled in the heart of the Lake District. The small, stone-built house sits gracefully atop a stone arch bridge, its weathered bricks and slate roof giving it a timeless, storybook appearance. Two bright blue windows stand out on the front of the house, adding character and warmth.
Surrounding the house is a whimsical, colourful scene filled with vibrant wildflowers, their pinks, yellows, whites, and greens dancing up from the foreground. The gently flowing water beneath the bridge reflects the lush greenery and soft sky above. The background features leafy trees painted in bright, fresh greens, while the sky glows in dreamy purples and soft blues. Playful splashes and dots of colour are scattered across the artwork, creating a magical atmosphere that brings this much-loved Lake District landmark to life.

The Bridge House, Ambleside
Bridge House in Ambleside is a charming 17th-century stone building that famously straddles Stock Beck in the heart of the Lake District. Originally built by the Braithwaite family, likely as an apple store to serve their orchards, it later became known for its unusual location. Despite its tiny size, the house has had a surprising number of uses over the centuries, including as a weaver’s workshop, a counting house, a tearoom, and even a home for a family of eight.
Its quirky design and rich history have made it one of the most photographed landmarks in the region. Today the house is preserved by the National Trust, Bridge House stands as a unique symbol of Ambleside’s heritage and inventive past.
