Stonehenge
Stonehenge is located in Wiltshire on the Salisbury Plain, about 9 miles north of Salisbury and 2 miles west of Amesbur.
Stonehenge is one of the most iconic prehistoric monuments in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Around 5000 years ago in the late Neolithic Age construction started on the stone circle which took over 1000 years to build.
Whilst the exact purpose remains a mystery it is widely believed that Stonehenge
served as a ceremonial or for religious functions, possibly related to astronomy. The alignment of the stones on the summer solstice suggest it also may have been used to mark seasonal changes.
