Stonehenge Postcard

Stonehenge postcard is from North East artist Emily Ward's beautiful range of art postcards. This postcard has been created from original art by Emily.

Stonehenge stands proud against a backdrop of fiery orange and soft amber on Emily’s art postcard. The colours of the sky suggest the break of dawn or a blazing summer dusk on the Salisbury Plains.

The sky is dotted with flecks of white and pink which enhance the magical quality of Stonehenge.

A luscious green field stretches across the foreground which is layered with vivid blooms. Little daisies and meadow flowers are painted in dabs of yellow, white and purple on Emily’s art of Stonehenge.

Stonehenge

Stonehenge is located in Wiltshire on the Salisbury Plain, about 9 miles north of Salisbury and 2 miles west of Amesbur.

Stonehenge is one of the most iconic prehistoric monuments in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Around 5000 years ago in the late Neolithic Age construction started on the stone circle which took over 1000 years to build.

Whilst the exact purpose remains a mystery it is widely believed that Stonehenge served as a ceremonial or for religious functions, possibly related to astronomy. The alignment of the stones on the summer solstice suggest it also may have been used to mark seasonal changes.
