Smeaton's Tower Coaster

Smeaton's Tower coaster by artist Emily Ward has been hand pressed locally onto a FSC rated hardbacked coaster. The coaster has been produced from original artwork by Emily.

This coaster can also be purchased in a set of four in a gift box.

This art coaster depicts Smeaton’s Tower in a bright, uplifting coastal scene filled with texture and colour.

The sky is layered with soft blues and scattered light marks, giving it a fresh, airy atmosphere. Rising prominently from the landscape, the lighthouse is painted in strong red and white stripes, standing out clearly against the sky.

The foreground is alive with wildflowers, splashed across Emily’s art gift in lively pinks, yellows, and greens, adding a sense of summer.

In the distance, Plymouth Sound lies calm and expansive, its muted blues and greens leading the eye toward low hills on the horizon and completing the tranquil seaside setting.

Smeaton's Tower

Smeaton’s Tower is a well known historic landmark on Plymouth Hoe in Devon. It was first constructed in 1759 by the engineer John Smeaton on the Eddystone Rocks, where it played a crucial role in guiding ships safely through dangerous waters.

The granite tower rises to about 72 feet (22 metres) in height and was pioneering for its innovative stone construction, designed to withstand extreme sea conditions. In 1882, the lighthouse was carefully taken apart and rebuilt on Plymouth Hoe, preserving its structure and legacy.

Although it is no longer an operational lighthouse, Smeaton’s Tower remains an important symbol of maritime history and engineering achievement.
