The Royal Crescent, Bath
The Royal Crescent in Bath is one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in Britain, celebrated for its graceful sweep and harmonious proportions. Built between 1767 and 1774 and designed by architect John Wood the Younger, the crescent consists of 30 grand townhouses arranged in a perfect arc overlooking a wide, manicured lawn.
Constructed from the honey-coloured Bath stone that gives the city its distinctive warmth, the façade presents a unified classical appearance, even though each house was historically owned and decorated separately. Today, the Royal Crescent remains an enduring symbol of Bath’s elegance, reflecting the wealth, taste, and architectural ambition of the 18th century while offering a striking visual landmark admired by visitors from around the world.
