Royal Observatory, Greenwich Bone China Cup

Greenwich Observatory bone china cup has been designed from original artwork by Emily Ward. All cups are printed and hand pressed in Emily's studio in the North East.

Emily's art gift of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich captures the landmark in a vibrant, dreamlike palette. The building’s glowing red-brick walls stand out against a sky painted in swirling shades of pink, lilac, and violet, creating a sense of warmth and movement.

The cool blue domes and spire rise elegantly above the structure, adding balance and contrast to this art bone china cup.

In the foreground, a meadow of wildflowers in bright purples, pinks, yellows, and greens fills the lower half of the art print, their dappled colours creating energy and texture. The flecks of paint scattered throughout the sky, garden, and architecture together, turning this historic observatory into a radiant celebration of colour and light.

The Royal Observatory

The Royal Observatory in Greenwich stands proudly on a hill overlooking the River Thames, marking the historic centre of world time and longitude. Established in 1675 by King Charles II and designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the observatory became a pioneering site for astronomy and navigation. Its distinctive domed roof and red-brick façade make it instantly recognisable, while the Prime Meridian Line that runs through its courtyard attracts visitors from around the world.

Surrounded by the greenery of Greenwich Park , the observatory offers stunning panoramic views of London, blending scientific heritage with architectural elegance. Today, it remains a powerful symbol of discovery, exploration, and humankind’s enduring fascination with the stars.
