Penshaw Monument
A grade I listed building also known as Earl of Durham’s Monument was built in 1844 to commemorate John Lambton the 1st Earl of Durham. Designed to look like The temple of Hephaestus, in Athens.
Penshaw monument
can be seen from up to 80km away and it would be hard not to see why anyone would not be impressed by this imposing memorial guarding the Herrington Country Park.
