Leeds Castle

Leeds Castle framed ceramic tile has been designed from original artwork by North East artist Emily Ward. All ceramic tiles are printed and hand pressed in Emily's art studio, where she hand finishes every tile.

Emily’s wall art of Leeds Castle is rendered in a bright style filled with lively colour and texture. The castle itself glows in warm shades of golden sandstone, honey, and soft amber, catching the light as it rises above the calm water that mirrors its walls and towers.

Surrounding the castle is a tranquil moat reflecting gentle blues and greens, giving the scene a peaceful, dreamlike atmosphere.

The sky is a clear, luminous blue, softly blended with pale tones that suggest a bright spring day. The entire scene is sprinkled with playful dots of colour, pinks, yellows, whites, and blues which create a joyful feel to this framed ceramic tile.

In the foreground, a vibrant meadow bursts with wildflowers in shades of pink, white, yellow, and lavender, their tall green stems and delicate petals forming a colourful tapestry that frames the castle beautifully.

Leeds Castle

Leeds Castle is a historic castle situated near Maidstone in the county of Kent. The present stone castle was begun in 1119 by the Norman baron Robert de Crevecoeur, although there had been an earlier Saxon manor on the site.

In the 13th century it was acquired by King Edward I, who transformed it into a royal residence, and it later became associated with six medieval queens, earning it the nickname “the Ladies’ Castle.” Over the centuries, Leeds Castle evolved from a fortified stronghold into a refined country residence, particularly following significant restoration and remodeling in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Set on small islands within a lake and surrounded by landscaped parkland, it reflects nearly 900 years of English architectural and royal history.
