Fountains Abbey Keyring

Fountains Abbey keyring has been created from original art by Emily Ward a local North East artist. This art keyring has been hand pressed locally in Emily's art studio.

A field of yellow lights up the stonework on the historic Fountains Abbey. A warming glow shimmers over the impressive monastic ruins from the colourful field of pink, blue and yellow wildflowers.

Emily has added splashes of colourful paint which speckles the sky filled with purple hues.

Fountains Abbey

The Abbey, Britain’s largest monastic ruin, was founded in 1132 by thirteen Benedictine monks from St Mary’s Abbey in York. They were seeking a simpler life, and later became Cistercian monks. The abbey was named Fountains Abbey because of the springs of water that existed in the area.

Fountains Abbey is located approximately 3 miles south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire.

The estate was sold by the Crown to a merchant, Sir Richard Gresham. It remained in private hands until the 1960s. The National Trust bought the estate from the West Riding County Council in 1983.
