Barbican Gates, Antrim Castle ceramic pendant has been created from original artwork by North East artist Emily Ward. This lovely hanging decoration has been hand pressed locally in her studio near Newcastle.

Emily’s art ceramic pendant of the Barbican Gates at Antrim Castle presents the historic entrance in a vibrant and uplifting style. The sky is softly blended with warm tones of pale yellow and gentle blue, creating a glowing, almost sunlit backdrop.

In the foreground, a dense field of stylised flowers bursts with pinks, purples, blues, and yellows, painted in delicate dots and stems that add texture.

These lively colours contrast beautifully with the solid, earthy browns of the stone gates. The gates themselves feature two rounded towers and a central arched entrance, with a bold red door that stands out strikingly against the neutral stone. The combination of bright, playful colours and the sturdy, historic structure creates a balanced image that feels both lively and timeless on this art gift.

Barbican Gates, Antrim Castle

The Barbican Gates at Antrim Castle Gardens are a prominent and well-preserved feature of the historic grounds in Antrim. Built in the 17th century, this imposing stone gateway once guarded the main approach to Antrim Castle, the long-time residence of the Massereene family.

Designed in the traditional barbican style, with robust stone walls and a central arched passage, it served both defensive and ceremonial purposes.

Although the castle was largely destroyed by fire in 1922, the Barbican Gates still stand as an impressive reminder of the estate’s historic significance and architectural heritage.
