Whitby Abbey Postcard

Whitby Abbey postcard by North East artist Emily Ward has been created from one of her original paintings in the Yorkshire and Humberside range of art prints and gifts.

The clifftop shines bright with delicate little pretty flowers in shades of pink.

Emily has captured these impressive gothic abbey ruins standing proud under an evening sky rich in mystery. The purples, blues and hints of red reflect off Whitby Abbey.

Whitby Abbey

Whitby Abbey for nearly 700 years has towered high on a clifftop overlooking Whitby, North Yorkshire. This splendid 13th-century Gothic abbey is steeped in history and was originally founded in 657AD by the Saxon King of Northumbria. Henry VIII ordered the Abbey to be destroyed in 1540.

Bram Stoker was so inspired by the gothic ruins in 1890 that he created Dracula and set part of it at the abbey.
