The Needles Lighthouse Postcard
The Needles Lighthouse Postcard
The Needles Lighthouse postcard is from North East artist Emily Ward's beautiful range of art postcards. This postcard has been created from original art by Emily.
Emily’s painting of The Needles Lighthouse captures the power of the sea and the steadfast presence of the lighthouse. The lighthouse base has hints of yellow which give the lighthouse tower a weatherred and sea-beaten look.
The rough angular shapes of the jagged chalk stacks of the Needles contrast with the cylindrical style of the lighthouse.
Emily’s sky is painted in a range of blues with wispy clouds that add texture and atmosphere to this art postcard.

The Needles Lighthouse
The Needles Lighthouse is an active 19th century lighthouse on the outermost of the chalk rocks at the Needles on the Isle of Wight.
The lighthouse was designed by James Walker, for Trinity House at a cost of £20,000 and was completed in 1859.
Built from granite blocks it stands 33.25 metres tall . The light can be seen for 14 miles at sea level.
The foghorn sounds every 15 seconds in poor visibility.
The lighthouse was automated in 1994.
