The Mill, Fountains Abbey
Fountains Mill was the former corn mill at Fountains Abbey
which is near Ripon in North Yorkshire. Regarded as the oldest building on the estate it was built by the Cistercians in the 12th century.
Over the years the building has been adapted and modified and has operated as a timber sawmill, a monastic granary, a mason's workshop and as a home for refugees. It survived the closure of Fountains Abbey and continued to mill grain until 1927 when it was closed down.
