The Manchester Bee Framed Ceramic Tile
The Manchester Bee Framed Ceramic Tile
The Manchester Bee framed ceramic tile has been designed from original art by North East artist Emily Ward. All ceramic tiles are printed and hand pressed in Emily's art studio, where she hand finishes every tile.
Emily’s art framed ceramic tile features a striking and cheerful interpretation of the iconic Manchester Bee, set against a bright, colourful backdrop. At the centre of the piece, the bold black and orange bee stands proudly, its distinctive wings and striped body instantly recognisable as a symbol of Manchester’s unity and determination.
The bee is surrounded by a lively field of wildflowers, with splashes of pink, yellow, white, and blue bringing the scene to life. The soft blue sky above is speckled with playful pastel dots, adding a sense of energy and movement to the artwork. The mix of the powerful bee emblem with the light, joyful setting creates a beautiful contrast, capturing both the strength and vibrant spirit that the city of Manchester represents.

The Manchester Bee
The Manchester Bee has long been a symbol of the city’s energy, resilience, and sense of community. Originally introduced as part of Manchester’s coat of arms in 1842, the worker bee represents the city’s industrious past and the collective hard work that helped shape it during the Industrial Revolution. Over time, it has become much more than just a nod to Manchester's industrial heritage and now stands as a symbol of unity, pride, and solidarity.
Following the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, the bee became an emblem of remembrance and strength, appearing in murals, tattoos, and artwork across the city. Today, it remains a proud and positive reminder of Manchester’s strong spirit and its people’s ability to come together in times of hardship.
