St James's Palace Ceramic Tile with Easel

St James's Palace ceramic tile with easel is by North East artist Emily Ward. The ceramic tile has been created from original artwork by Emily and is hand pressed locally in her art studio.

Emily’s art ceramic tile captures the scene with a playful atmosphere. The sky is painted in soft layers of pale blue with hints of violet, creating a gentle backdrop that feels light and open. Scattered across it are tiny specks of yellow, pink, and white, suggesting drifting petals or confetti.

Below, the flowers form a vibrant foreground, rising in tall, slender strokes of purple, magenta, blue, lemon yellow, and white. They appear loosely arranged, giving the impression of wildflowers swaying together rather than a formal planting.

These bright, cheerful colours contrast with the more solid tones of the palace behind them, while also echoing the flecks in the sky. Together, the sky and flowers soften the architectural scene, filling it with energy, colour, and a joyful sense of life.

St Jame's Palace

St James’s Palace, nestled between The Mall and St James’s Park in central London, is a historic royal residence with origins dating back to the reign of Henry VIII. Completed in the 1530s, it was built in the distinctive red-brick Tudor style and for centuries served as the principal home of English monarchs. Although overshadowed in prominence by Buckingham Palace, it continues to play a key role in royal life, hosting formal receptions, investitures, and state occasions.

Its historic gatehouse and elegant courtyards stand as reminders of its rich past. Inside, it provides official offices and residences for members of the royal family. As the location where the Accession Council meets to formally proclaim a new sovereign, St James’s Palace remains a significant and enduring symbol of Britain’s monarchy.
