Smeaton's Tower Open Edition Print A4
Smeaton's Tower Open Edition Print
Smeaton's Tower open edition print has been designed from original artwork by North East artist Emily Ward. This lovely art print is also available framed.
Emily’s art print portrays Smeaton’s Tower in a vivid and expressive style, full of colour. The sky is painted in soft yet lively shades of blue, flecked with light tones that give it a breezy feel.
The lighthouse stands tall and striking, its bold red and white bands clearly defined and glowing against the sky. In the foreground, a field of wildflowers spreads across the scene in vibrant pinks, yellows, greens, and purples, creating a rich, textured carpet that brings warmth to this art print.
Beyond the flowers, Plymouth Sound stretches calmly into the distance in gentle blues and greens, with low hills on the horizon completing a peaceful coastal view that balances colour, structure, and tranquillity.

Smeaton's Tower
Smeaton’s Tower is a well known historic landmark on Plymouth Hoe in Devon. It was first constructed in 1759 by the engineer John Smeaton on the Eddystone Rocks, where it played a crucial role in guiding ships safely through dangerous waters.
The granite tower rises to about 72 feet (22 metres) in height and was pioneering for its innovative stone construction, designed to withstand extreme sea conditions. In 1882, the lighthouse was carefully taken apart and rebuilt on Plymouth Hoe, preserving its structure and legacy.
Although it is no longer an operational lighthouse, Smeaton’s Tower remains an important symbol of maritime history and engineering achievement.
