Tamar and Brunel Bridges
The Royal Albert Bridge and the Tamar Bridge
stand alongside one another at Saltash, spanning the River Tamar between Devon and Cornwall.
Completed in 1859, the Royal Albert Bridge was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and is noted for its graceful iron arches that carry the railway across the river. The Tamar Bridge, opened in 1961, provides a road crossing and features a suspension design that reflects mid-20th-century engineering.
Together, these two structures create a striking contrast between historic and modern design, forming an iconic landmark and important transport link between the two counties.
