Shakespeare's Globe Canvas Print
Shakespeare's Globe Canvas Print
Shakespeare's Globe art canvas print has been produced from original artwork by North East artist Emily Ward. Emily hand finishes each canvas print with her characteristic splashes of paint making it individual to you.
Emily's art canvas print opens with a burst of color at the base, where dotted pastels dominate the foreground. Purples, pinks, yellows, and blues are depicted through daubs and flecks of paint, forming a vibrant carpet. Specks rise into the sky, blurring the line between flowers and air.
Beyond this joyful ground, the theatre takes shape as a circular building, its timber-framed walls painted in white and dark brown. A thatched roof, glowing in golden tones, crowns the structure.

Shakespeare's Globe
The Globe Theatre , created in 1599, was the product of Shakespeare’s company, the Lord Chamberlain’s Men. Built from timber salvaged from a previous playhouse, it quickly became the centre of London’s theatrical life. With its open-air design, circular structure, and wooden galleries, it could hold an audience of around 3,000 people, from groundlings standing in the pit to nobles in the balconies. Many of Shakespeare’s greatest plays, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, were first performed there, establishing the Globe as the stage most closely tied to his career.
Its story, however, was marked by misfortune. The theatre burned down in 1613 during a performance of Henry VIII when a stage cannon set fire to the thatched roof, but it was rebuilt within a year. Closed permanently by the Puritans in 1642 and later demolished, the Globe disappeared for centuries until American actor Sam Wanamaker spearheaded its modern resurrection. The reconstructed Globe, completed in 1997 on London’s South Bank, now functions as both a working theatre and a cultural monument, offering audiences a rare chance to experience Shakespeare in an environment close to his own time.
