Shakespeare's Birthplace
Shakespeare’s Birthplace is a historic 16th century timber framed house on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. It is believed to have been the house where William Shakespeare was born in 1564 and where he spent his childhood.
The property belonged to his father, John Shakespeare, a successful glove maker and local businessman, who lived there with his wife Mary and their family.
Shakespeare’s Birthplace
has welcomed visitors for years and is one of the best known literary landmarks in England. The house was purchased for the nation in 1847 and is now cared for by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
