Rosedale Mines Greeting Card
Rosedale Mines greeting card is from North East artist Emily Ward's beautiful range of Yorkshire art cards. This greeting card has been created from original art by Emily.
Emily has given the iconic old kilns of Rosedale Mines a splash of colour. The stone arches are set against the luscious greens of the Yorkshire Moors.
The foreground is filled with a vibrant meadow of blue, yellow and lilac wildflowers on this art blank greeting card.
A single sheep grazes peacefully amongst the flowers, adding a sense of tranquility to the rugged beauty of the historic site.

Rosedale Mines
The Rosedale Mines are situated in the North York Moors National Park in West Yorkshire. Mining for iron began there around 1856 near Chimney Bank and the village of Rosedale Abbey.
Originally ironstone was quarried from the cliff face as the ironstone stood out on the hillside. Later the Bank Top kilns were built on the hillside with tunnels being dug into them, in an effort to refine the mining process. This process was called ‘calcining’ which was where they burnt the ore with coal to reduce its weight by up to half and remove impurities. This helped with the transportation costs.
The mining in Rosedale came to an end in 1929 after 11 million tonnes of ironstone had been taken from the valley, which was used in construction projects around the world.
