Moot Hall
Moot Hall in Keswick is one of the town’s most distinctive and historic landmarks, standing proudly in the centre of the Market Square. The current building dates back to the early 19th century, though earlier versions of the hall have occupied the same site since the 1500s.
Built from local slate with a striking clock tower rising above its gabled roof, Moot Hall has long served as the heart of Keswick’s civic and community life. Over the centuries, it has been used as a courthouse, a market hall, and even a meeting place for local officials.
Today, it houses the Keswick Tourist Information Centre and serves as a welcoming focal point for visitors exploring the town and the surrounding Lake District. With its traditional architecture and rich heritage, Moot Hall
stands as a proud symbol of Keswick’s history and enduring charm.
