Hill Top is the beloved former home of renowned author and illustrator Beatrix Potter, located in the picturesque village of Sawrey in the Lake District. Purchased by Beatrix in 1905, this charming 17th-century farmhouse provided both a peaceful retreat and endless inspiration for her famous children’s stories. Many of her tales, including The Tale of Tom Kitten
and The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck
, feature scenes and details taken directly from Hill Top and its surrounding countryside.
The house has been carefully preserved, with each room filled with her belongings, original furniture and personal items, giving visitors a glimpse into her life and creative world.
Now managed by the National Trust, Hill Top remains a popular destination and offers an enchanting glimpse into the rural life that shaped Beatrix Potter’s timeless works.
