Lancaster Castle framed ceramic tile has been designed from original artwork by North East artist Emily Ward. All ceramic tiles are printed and hand pressed in Emily's art studio, where she hand finishes every tile.
Emily’s framed ceramic tile captures Lancaster Castle in a vibrant and imaginative style, blending history with bursts of colour. The warm golden-brown stone of the fortress rises proudly, its battlements outlined against a sky of soft blues and purples.
Surrounding the castle, trees are painted in fresh, lively shades of green, dotted with flecks of light that give them movement and texture. At the base, a field of flowers blooms in playful splashes of pink, yellow, white, and purple, creating a joyful contrast to the solid stone walls.
Speckles of colour drift across the entire scene, weaving together the castle, sky, and landscape into a bright, almost magical vision.

Lancaster Castle
rises above the River Lune with a commanding presence, its solid sandstone walls and towers bearing witness to centuries of history. At its heart stands the imposing John O’Gaunt Gatehouse, a formidable entrance that reflects the castle’s role as both fortress and seat of power.
Over the years, it has served as a stronghold, a court of law, and even a prison, its stories woven with moments of intrigue and drama, including the infamous Pendle witch trials of the 17th century. The castle’s battlements, turrets, and arched gateways embody medieval strength and authority, while its elevated position gives it a dramatic silhouette over the city below. Today, it remains a striking symbol of endurance, heritage, and the enduring presence of the past in the heart of Lancaster.

Each Framed Tile is hand finished by North East Artist Emily Ward. So although your ceramic framed tile is actually a print, no two tiles are identical. Emily hand finishes the tiles by adding extra paint to the ceramic tile.
The framed tile appears as if it is floating inside the frame.
Frames are available in White and Black Frames.
