Horsey Windpump
Standing beside the River Thurne in the Norfolk Broads, Horsey Windpump is one of East Anglia’s most recognisable historic landmarks. The present red brick structure was built in 1912 to help drain the surrounding marshland and protect the low lying countryside from flooding.
Once powered by its large sails, the windpump played an important part in shaping and maintaining this unique wetland landscape. Today, it is cared for by the National Trust
and offers wonderful views across the waterways, reed beds and open skies of the Broads.
The nearby village of Horsey is also well known for Horsey Gap, where large colonies of grey seals can often be seen along the coast.
