Fountains Abbey Open Edition Print

Fountains Abbey open edition print has been designed from original artwork by North East artist Emily Ward. This lovely art print is also available framed.

Emily has given these magnificent abbey ruins in Yorkshire a splash of colour. The monastic ruins stand proud behind a colourful field filled with pink, blue and yellow dainty flowers. A soft yellow hue glistens over the grassy meadow.

Tones of lilac flicker through the sky which is speckled with splashes of yellow and pink paint.

Fountains Abbey

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Park have been an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986. The impressive site includes the ruins of the largest Cistercian monastery in the UK, a splendid Georgian formal water garden, and a medieval deer park.

Situated near the town of Ripon in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Abbey, Britain’s largest monastic ruin, was founded in 1132 by thirteen Benedictine monks from St Mary’s Abbey in York. They were seeking a simpler life, and later became Cistercian monks. The abbey was named Fountains Abbey because of the springs of water that existed in the area.
