Fountains Abbey Ceramic Tile with Easel

Fountains Abbey ceramic tile with easel is by North East artist Emily Ward. The ceramic tile has been created from original artwork by Emily.

Brightly coloured wildflowers grow in abundance in front of the ancient ruins. A field of yellow gives a warming glow to the stonework of Fountains abbey in Emily's art tile.

Subtle tones of purples and lilac fill the evening sky.

Fountains Abbey

Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. Located approximately 3 miles south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire. The Abbey was founded in 1132 by thirteen Benedictine monks from St Mary’s Abbey in York.

The abbey was named Fountains Abbey because of the springs of water that existed in the area.

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Park was one of the first places to be designated a NESCO World Heritage site in the UK in 1986.
