Clifford's Tower
Clifford’s Tower is the largest remaining part of York Castle in Yorkshire. The ruined keep is one of the best-loved landmarks in York and provides sweeping views of the city and the North York Moors.
Clifford's Tower played a major role in the control of northern England and was built in the 11th century on the orders of William the Conqueror. It was burnt to the ground twice before being rebuilt by Henry III in the 13th century.
The stone tower had many different uses, from housing kings, to being used as a prison.
