Clifford's Tower Limited Edition Print

Clifford's Tower limited edition print has been created by artist Emily Ward from original artwork in her Yorkshire and Humberside art range. This lovely art print is also available framed.

You can imagine climbing the steep and winding steps up towards this medieval castle keep in Emily's picture. Bright yellow springtime flowers cover the grassy mound adding a warmth to the historic building.

Emily's characteristic splashes of yellow, pink and white paint gentle cover the yellowing stone ruins of the castle.

Clifford's Tower

Clifford's Tower is the largest remaining structure of York Castle. The castle was built of timber in 1068 by William the Conqueror, it's purpose was to control northern England. This was burnt down during a massacre in 1190.

King Henry III arranged the rebuilding of York Castle in 1244. By the 19th century all that remained was, the now ruined keep of the medieval castle, known as Clifford's Tower.

Clifford's Tower gets it's name from Roger de Clifford who was executed for treason against Edward II, he was hanged in chains from the tower walls.
