Canterbury Cathedral Coaster

Canterbury Cathedral coaster by Emily Ward, is hand pressed onto a FSC rated hardbacked coaster locally in her studio near Newcastle. The coaster has been produced from original art by Emily.

This coaster can also be purchased as part of a set of four in a gift box.

A beautiful day breaks over the cathedral lighting up the sky with a burst of colour on Emily Ward's art coaster. Striking oranges with a hint of red fill the sky casting a golden glow that shimmers over the Gothic architecture.

Splashes of Emily's characteristic paint create the impression that the tree is full of the same dainty flowers that grow merrily in front of the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral.

Canterbury Cathedral

Cathedral Canterbury in Kent is a breath-taking mixture of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. It has been the seat of the spiritual head of the Church of England for nearly five centuries.

It is one of the oldest Christian structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site.

Following the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket in 1170 AD and his subsequent canonisation it became a place of pilgrimage.

The wealth and power of the Cathedral in the 12th century resulting from the offerings of large numbers of pilgrims helped in building the magnificent enlargement of the east end.

The exceptional stained glass windows and the rebuilding of the choir and transepts followed the fire of 1174.
