Big Ben Postcard

Big Ben postcard is from North East artist Emily Ward's beautiful range of art postcards. This postcard has been created from original art by Emily.

The famous London landmark of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben glimmer with golden streaks of sunlight on Emily’s art postcard. The sunrise provides a vibrant burst of colour, oranges, reds and yellows fill the London skyline. The warming colours highlight the Gothic architecture.

The River Thames is filled with colourful, splattered dots in purple, yellow, blue and pink which give the impression of wildflowers floating across the water.

Big Ben

The iconic silhouette of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament is one of London’s most popular attractions, the area attracts up to 5 million visitors a year. Big Ben is located within the Elizabeth Tower, which is part of the Palace of Westminster. The Elizabeth Tower is the official name for the clock tower, while Big Ben specifically refers to the large hour bell housed inside.

Work commenced on the Houses of Parliament in 1840 and the Clock Tower, which houses Big Ben, was started in 1843. Big Ben first chimed sixteen years later in 1859.

Elizabeth Tower stands at more than 96 metres tall, there are 334 steps to climb up to the belfry and 399 steps to the Ayrton Light at the very top of the tower.
