Durham Cathedral

With over 1000 years of political, religious and social history this Romanesque style cathedral was built originally to house the Shrine of St Cuthbert. Today Durham Cathedral is recognised as one of the world’s great cathedrals as its Norman architecture has mainly survived intact.

Construction started in 1093 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Durham Cathedral's relics include: Saint Cuthbert's, transported to Durham by Lindisfarne monks in the 800s; Saint Oswald's head and the Venerable Bede's remains.

The Cathedral has services every day and the choir sings most days too. There is a museum, the tower, Harry Potter filming locations. The stained glass is beautiful and there is lots more to explore.  To plan a visit to the Cathedral follow

Durham Cathedral Prints

Durham Cathedral print was created from an original painting by North East local artist Emily Ward. Emily hand finishes all her canvas prints with her trademark splashes.

Emily’s painting of Durham Cathedral is bursting with vibrant colours which transport you to the embankment of the River Wear as it meanders around this medieval city. Glance at the many reflections of the cathedral glistening away with a soft purple haze over the river.

Flourishing leafy greenery with hints of pink and red shrubs stand guard in front of those impressive towers reaching for the skyline. This impressive canvas print of Durham Cathedral is full of character. See more of this Print
