York Minster

The largest medieval stained glass in the country can be found in the magnificent Great East Window of York Minster, also known as the "Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of St Peter in York." This 600-year-old window, boasting a remarkable 300 glazed panels, recently underwent a major 12-year restoration to preserve its historical significance and stunning craftsmanship. During the Middle Ages, the creation of these intricate panels was considered a daring feat of artistry and skill. As the second largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, York Minster stands as a testament to the architectural and artistic prowess of its time. Inspired by the grandeur of this Gothic masterpiece, I have created a painting capturing the majestic sight of the golden morning sun casting a radiant beam of sunshine over the cathedral, highlighting its awe-inspiring beauty and timeless charm.

Clifford's Tower York

Since its construction in 1245 by order of William 1 as a symbol of dominance over the Viking city of Jorvik, now known as York, Clifford's Tower has stood proudly as a prominent landmark overlooking the city. With a rich history spanning over a millennium, this monument holds a revered position in York's landscape. Situated on a raised mound that previously housed a timber keep constructed by William the Conqueror but destroyed in a fire in 1190, the tower stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of York's past.

Once an integral part of York Castle, Clifford's Tower has played a role in numerous pivotal national events, including the Dissolution of the Monasteries and the English Civil War, further solidifying its place as a significant piece of English history. From its strategic construction to its involvement in shaping the course of historical events, Clifford's Tower continues to captivate visitors with its tales of resilience and influence.
