Shakespeare's Globe fridge magnet has been designed from original artwork by artist Emily Ward. This art fridge magnet is printed and hand pressed in Emily's studio in the North East.
Shakespeare’s Globe is shown here with a warm glow that highlights the charm of its Tudor design. The circular walls are depicted in white and deep brown, the timber framing clearly marked, while the golden thatched roof gives the building a welcoming brightness under the daylight. Red banners hang from the outside, adding height and a touch of theatrical drama to the scene.
Above, the sky is painted in soft shades of blue and purple, scattered with specks of lighter colours. The foreground is filled with wildflowers, painted in clusters of pink, yellow, and purple. Shakespeare's Globe
The Globe Theatre
began its life in 1599, built by the Lord Chamberlain’s Men with William Shakespeare as both playwright and shareholder. It was an open-air playhouse that reflected the city around it, welcoming a diverse mix of people. With its galleries, yard, and thrust stage, it was a place where audiences and actors met face-to-face, and where many of Shakespeare’s most famous plays were first performed.
The theatre’s lifespan was brief yet impactful. Burned down in 1613 during a performance, it was rebuilt, only to close during the Puritan crackdown on theatre in 1642. Demolished soon after, it lived on in reputation alone until the late 20th century. The modern Globe, opened in 1997, restores the original’s spirit with careful attention to historical detail. It now stands as both a venue for Shakespearean drama and a monument to the lasting power of performance.
