The Poppy
The poppy
has a wide range of symbolic meanings dependant on cultures. In the West it is a sign of remembrance and in the East it symbolises success and beauty.
Ancient Greek, Egyptian, and the Romans linked it to sleep due to the sedative effect of the plant’s sap. The Victorians gave the flower a different meaning based on the colour, including consolation for loss, deep sleep, and extravagance. Japanese and Chinese flower experts recommend the poppy to couples as it means a passionate and deep love between two people.
