Hexham Abbey

Hexham Abbey is situated in the market town of Hexham in Northumberland. The Abbey was originally built in AD 674.

The current church largely dates from c.1170–1250, and was built in the Early English Gothic style of architecture. The choir, north and south transepts and the cloisters, where canons studied and meditated, all date from this period.

There has been a church on the site for over 1300 years since Etheldreda, Queen of Northumbria made a grant of lands to St Wilfred the Bishop of York around 674 A.D.
