Sycamore Gap
Sycamore Gap is a well-known beauty spot in Northumberland, located along Hadrian's Wall. It was famous for its solitary sycamore tree, which stood in a natural dip between two hills and created one of the most photographed views in the country.
Planted in the late 1800s, the tree became an iconic feature of the landscape and gained international recognition after appearing in the 1991 film Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves starring Kevin Costner.
In 2023, the tree was deliberately felled, an act that caused widespread sadness and outrage. Despite this loss, Sycamore Gap remains a significant and much visited historic site along the ancient Roman wall.
