Cardiff Castle Postcard

Cardiff Castle postcard is from North East artist Emily Ward's beautiful range of art postcards. This postcard has been created from original artwork by Emily.

Emily’s art postcard of Cardiff Castle captures the building in a bright style, combining detailed structure with colour. The sky is painted in soft, blended tones of blue and pale yellow, forming a glowing, almost circular light behind the castle that draws your eye to its central tower.

Small flecks of pink, orange, and white are scattered throughout, like petals drifting in the air. In the foreground, a vibrant layer of flowers spreads across the hillside, dominated by fresh greens and cheerful yellows that give the scene a lively, natural feel.

The castle itself is depicted in warm, sandy browns and soft stone shades, standing solid and detailed against the colourful background, which enhances the contrast between strength and beauty.

Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle , situated in central Cardiff, is a remarkable example of how architecture can evolve across centuries while preserving elements of its past. Originally founded as a Roman fort in the 1st century AD, the site was later developed into a formidable Norman castle with a prominent keep built around 1081.

In the 19th century, it was transformed into a spectacular Gothic Revival residence under the direction of William Burges for the Bute family. Its architecture blends sturdy medieval defensive structures with highly decorative interiors, featuring intricate carvings, colourful murals, and richly adorned ceilings. This combination of practical fortification and artistic detail makes the castle a distinctive and visually striking monument.
