Eilean Donan Castle
Eilean Donan Castle sits on a tidal island where three sea lochs meet. Eilean Donan is near to The Kyle of Lochalsh and looks out towards The Isle of Skye in the Western Highlands of Scotland.
The first settlement on this tiny island was by Bishop Donan in 634AD The first of four castles to be built was in the 13th century. Built by Alexander II to originally protect the area from Viking attacks.
The castle lay empty for 200 years after it was blown up in 1719. The castle was bought and renovated between 1912 and 1932 when the bridge was also added.
